BILLBOARD MARKETPLACE
How Billboard Advertising Works
A practical guide to choosing a location, understanding rental costs, and getting your business on a billboard.

You do not have to contact every billboard company yourself. OOH Inventory brings locations from multiple companies together so you can compare choices through one point of contact. Start with the customers you want to reach, the area you serve, and your campaign dates.
Start with the location and the direction of travel
A location should fit your customers’ routes. For a local shop, that may mean a road leading toward your business. For a business serving several towns, compare locations across that area. Review the listing photo, traffic direction, facing direction, size, and surroundings together. Facing direction describes where the display points; traffic direction describes how the viewing audience travels.
Choose static or digital
Static billboards
A printed message remains on the face during the agreed display period. Ask about printing, installation, lighting, and the time needed to post your artwork.
Digital billboards
Your artwork typically appears in a rotation with other advertisers. Ask about ad duration, rotation frequency, operating hours, and creative changes. Confirm the specific schedule before booking.
Understand the full rental quote
Pricing depends on the location, format, campaign length, and the terms offered for your dates. Request an itemized quote covering media rental, artwork services, printing, installation, and any applicable taxes or additional charges. Ask whether the quoted period is a calendar month or a four-week period, and confirm payment and cancellation terms.
Traffic counts and impressions measure different things
A road traffic count measures vehicles at a count location. It does not tell you how many people noticed a particular billboard. Mississippi DOT publishes annual average daily traffic, or AADT, which uses adjustments to estimate average daily vehicle volume. Check the station location and data year in the MDOT Traffic Count Application before comparing a nearby count with a listing.
Advertising impressions estimate audience exposures or notices under the stated measurement method. Reach concerns different people, while frequency concerns repeated exposure. Ask which source and reporting period support a listing’s audience figures. The Geopath measurement glossary explains these terms; a link to Geopath does not mean every listing has Geopath-audited measurements.
Keep your billboard message easy to read
Choose one main message, readable lettering, and a clear next step. Preview the artwork at a small size to see whether the message still makes sense at a glance. Supply final files using the dimensions and production requirements confirmed for the selected billboard.

Questions business owners ask
Can you help me if I do not know which billboard to choose?
Yes. Tell us where your business is located and which customers you want to reach. We can help compare locations and formats for your dates.
Can I advertise in more than one city?
Yes. Share the area you serve so we can compare a campaign across several markets through one point of contact.
Will a billboard guarantee more sales?
No campaign can promise a specific sales result. Decide how you will evaluate the campaign before it starts, such as tracking inquiries, a memorable offer, or customers who mention the billboard.
